Something in Between
Hi. My name is Tina Valentine Vilca and I would like to welcome you to my blog, Something in Between.
I began this blog, to shine a light on the runners who are considered everyday runners. Runners that aren’t elite, but they aren’t beginners. You know, the runners in the real world—full time careers, kids, married and they still find the time to run.
I began running again in 2017, after taking a hiatus after departing the Marine Corps in early 2010. In that time, I had a baby and gained more than 60 pounds. After returning to the job world, it has been tough, raising a family with four kids alongside of my husband Joseph. I decided it was time to do something for myself. So, I started running again. Since I had spent years doing nothing—I turned to YouTube.com to see what’s the newest trends in running community. I stumbled upon a woman named Kelly Roberts. Her impossible mission was to qualify for the Boston Marathon. I loved watching her determination to chase her goal. It turns out that it’s not so easy, as she is still chasing her impossible mission. After watching a few of her videos, on a whim I decided to hire [a complete stranger] her running coach Josh Maio of Gotham City Runners.
When you think about it, with all that’s on my plate—why not hire a coach. One less stress to worry about.
After a year of building my base—-ran a few half marathons. I decided to raise the ante. To run my first marathon at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and try to qualify for the Boston Marathon 2020. Hopefully, with the help of my coach I can achieve this goal. I guess this could be considered my impossible—-I don’t think it’s impossible, it’s just work. I have to think to myself, am I crazy? I already have a full time job: a mom, full time employee and commute 3 hours a day to and from work. Yup, I am crazy.
I hope that you enjoy my journey and maybe learn a few things about us something in between runners.
